Tom Marvolo Riddle (December 31, 1926 – May 2, 1998) later known as Lord Voldemort, was a half-blood wizard and considered to be the most powerful Dark Wizard of all time. He was the son of wealthy Muggle Tom Riddle Sr., and witch Merope Gaunt, who died shortly after childbirth. Riddle ultimately changed his name, by way of an anagram, from "Tom Marvolo Riddle" to "I am Lord Voldemort", as a way of removing his own heritage and of exalting himself, and he killed the Riddle family, partly because they were Muggles, and partly because they abandoned him and his mother. He wanted to control the wizarding world and wanted to be the master of death and have all the power. Voldemort wanted to kill people so that he could make Horcruxes, which would make him immortal.

• Riddle was outwardly a model student, but was in reality a psychopath who took sadistic pleasure in using his powers to harm and control people. He eventually murdered his father and grandparents as revenge for abandoning him.
• Ultimately Voldemort's soul splintered, which then terminated his physical body and splitting his soul into a new Horcrux. When he eliminated Harry's parents in cold blood and attempted to kill a defenseless infant, there was enough justification for the creation of a Horcrux.
• Perhaps Voldemort's biggest mistake was thinking he was invincible. He was extremely arrogant and believed himself to be superior to everyone around him. Ever since he was a child in the orphanage, Voldemort thought he was better than everyone else. This sentiment continued to grow as he did.
• The evilest character in Harry Potter, Voldemort utters the killing curse in a desperate bid to end Harry in the final book. The curse rebounds since Harry was already the master of the Elder Wand and therefore immune, making 'Avada Kedavra' the Dark Lord's dying words.
