Gene Simmons, also known by his stage persona The Demon, is the bassist and co-lead singer of the hard rock band Kiss. He co-founded the band in the early 1970s with Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Simmons was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

KISS was formed in January 1973 and originally had the name Wicked Lester. Stanley and co-founder Gene Simmons started the band in 1972 after drummer Peter Criss mentioned that he was in a band called LIPS. Stanley came up with the name KISS after Criss said he'd been in a band called “Lips”.
The self-titled debut album by the American rock band Kiss was released on February 18, 1974. The album marked the band's entrance into the music scene. It showcased their raw energy and rebellious spirit with a hard-hitting collection of tracks.
Much of the material on the album was written by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who were members of their pre-Kiss band Wicked Lester. The original first release of the album was on blue Casablanca labels.
